This subject is a broad introduction to computer programming. A number of themes are explored including procedural programming, object-oriented programming, the fundamental elements and concepts of programming, problem solving techniques using algorithmic development, and GUI programming skills.

Learning Outcomes

• understand the behaviour of simple programs, involving the fundamental programming constructs;
• appreciate the methods and concepts required to program a computer program;
• apply problem solving techniques such as divide and conquer, and recursion;
• develop a basic knowledge of GUI programming and event-handling.
